Energy Wellbeing programme

Households on our Energy Wellbeing programme receive a Toastie Winter Energy Benefit to reduce heating costs in winter. This can include a big price discount, energy bill cap, or electricity credit over the months of June, July, and August. Lowering the cost of power over the colder months means more heating at lower costs to help out folks who are struggling to keep warm. They are also guaranteed a lower everyday electricity cost than they were paying with their previous supplier. In addition, households receive support to create a warm, dry, healthy home through a personalised Home Energy Check by a Sustainability Trust healthy homes advisor. The Home Energy Check provides free items, access to free or subsidised home upgrades, referrals to other support services and lots of helpful tips to create a warmer drier home.

We’re taking action by slicing into the causes of energy hardship: high power costs, poor quality housing, inefficient appliances and limited incomes in Wellington, Hutt Valley, Porirua, Kāpiti and Horowhenua.

How it works

Households on our Energy Wellbeing programme have their winter energy bills capped at a cost they can afford, so they don’t have to worry about high power bills in the colder months.

Households eligible for the programme are referred through one of our partner budget advice agencies in the Wellington region (Hutt Valley, Wellington, Porirua, Kāpiti and Horowhenua). We work with the household and referral partner to create a home that uses less energy to run, has lower power costs, and empowers clients with the information and knowledge to live a happy healthy life.
